Tottenham starlet Alfie Devine tipped for big success by Guardian’s next-gen report
Tottenham starlet Alfie Devine is among the players touted by to have huge futures, with their latest report on the best next-gen talents in the Premier League.
Devine is one of the newer players at Spurs, having joined the club from Wigan when the Latics suffered financial problems earlier in the year.
At just 16 – he’s not 17 until next August – Devine is the selection for Tottenham among a list of 20 players tipped to go onto bigger and better things within the game in the coming seasons and beyond.
Jose Mourinho is already aware of and a fan of the teenage midfielder, having handed Devine some minutes during pre-season this summer.
The notes Devine for his ‘imposing box to box style’ and he was already a member of the Wigan under-23s before he made a £300k move to Tottenham.
A midfielder, Devine will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of current first XI regular Harry Winks, while Oliver Skipp is another example at the club who he could follow.

As detailed by , Liverpool passed up the chance to take a punt on Devine as an 11-year-old and they could now end up looking back with a bit of anguish if his development continues on its current rapid trajectory.
Of course, this happens a lot in football. It’s hard to tell how good someone might be when they aren’t even a teenager yet.
But Spurs seem to have a fine young player in their ranks. With some coaching, and some hard work studying some of the quality midfield players Tottenham has in the ranks already, Devine can be confident of eventually getting his chance at the club.
