Tottenham star told to leave by his national boss, Leeds and Newcastle keen

Wales manager Rob Page has urged Joe Rodon to leave Tottenham in the January window, The Spurs defender is struggling for game time, and has admirers in the likes of Newcastle and Leeds.

Rodon, 24, is struggling for game time. Even Antonio Conte has admitted that he is cover for Eric Dier, a player that is arguably deserving of Tottenham’s Player of the Season so far title, at this halfway stage.

Indeed, Wales international Rodon has only been afforded six appearances this season – only once under Conte. That came in the form of a 2-1 defeat to NS Mura in Slovenia – with Rodon one of the players to be subbed on 53 minutes.

this month that Leeds and Newcastle are battling Watford and Brighton in the race to sign the ex-Swansea defender on loan in January. Now, his Wales boss Page has urged him to get a move.

“Joe is an unbelievable talent and rightly so got a move to a big Premier League club. But now he understands he might have to move on and play games of football because we want our best players playing week in, week out.”

Page on Rodon: Tottenham star needs to go, Leeds or Newcastle?

Rodon is an exceptional player but finds himself, perhaps unfortunately, left out of a Spurs side by no doing of his own. He needs a move, but which club is best – Leeds or Newcastle?

Leeds currently have injuries at the back – Liam Cooper sidelined until the new year, Diego Llorente missing in the last game and Pascal Struijk still injured. Newcastle simply need more quality at the back. Both are in a relegation scrap.

Newcastle’s three-at-the-back formation is more suited to Tottenham, but Leeds will have more of the ball – like Spurs do. Either will do him the world of good, both at club level and for country.
