Tottenham star delivers verdict on Arsenal’s decision to sign player
that he was surprised David Luiz left Chelsea to join London rivals Arsenal this summer – ahead of Sunday afternoon’s north London derby.
Luiz, 32, was one of two Arsenal signings on deadline day, as Unai Emery also completed a £25million move for Kieran Tierney from Celtic. Arsenal paid just £8million for Luiz, who played alongside Moura at Paris Saint-Germain.
Brazilian duo Moura and Luiz are set to do battle on Sunday in the first north London derby of the season, with both sides coming into the match after suffering defeats last time out. Liverpool annihilated Arsenal, while Newcastle beat Tottenham.
Moura stated that he was surprised the former Benfica defender moved to Arsenal in the summer, and believes Chelsea fans are not happy about the decision to offload the centre-back. But he did urge those to respect Luiz’s decision.

“I am happy for him because it was a good transfer for him to make. I am also happy because he is closer to me now. He can come visit me at my home easier because when he was at Chelsea, he was so far away,”
“Was I surprised he left Chelsea for Arsenal? That’s football. Anything can happen. Of course it is not normal because the two clubs face each other every year in a derby. Chelsea fans are not happy. But everyone needs to do their choice and they need to respect them.”
TBR’s view – Tottenham must learn from Salah, and target Luiz
If Spurs are to bounce the back from their dismal defeat to Newcastle, they must target the frailties that Luiz brings – which were made massively evident on Saturday evening, as Mo Salah ridiculed the Brazilian.
Spurs need to do the same – including Moura – by targeting Luiz. With confidence low, Spurs must try anything and everything to beat Arsenal – and identifying Luiz as the Gunners’ weakness could help them do that.
