Tottenham star branded ‘elite’ by country’s media after overnight display
Tottenham ace Cristian Romero has been branded ‘elite’ by – after the Spurs ace helped his country beat Peru.
Argentina took a big step towards qualification for the 2022 World Cup with a narrow 1-0 win over Peru – strengthening their place in second position.
Lionel Scaloni’s side secured victory thanks to Lautaro Martinez’s goal just before the half-time break. Romero was crucial in keeping a clean sheet.
The combination of Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, ex-Manchester City star Nicolas Otamendi and Romero is working wonders for Scaloni.
The win sees Argentina still sit six points behind Brazil, but with the top four qualifying, they are nine clear of Uruguay with seven games to play.
and while only handing Romero a 6/10, they described him as ‘elite’ and a ‘wall’ at the back against Peru.
“Cuti looks like a wall. Win up and down; demonstrates physical strength worthy of an elite center-back. He scored a disallowed goal with a header.”

Romero praised: Tottenham star in good form, club and Argentina
It was a tumultuous summer for Romero. Winning the Copa America, he returned to club level late – and then swapped Atalanta for Tottenham.
Then, a niggling knee injury picked up in Copa America bugged Romero in the first few weeks. Isolation next, which could affect him this weekend.
But it seems Romero is now calming down after a bumpy summer – and it is helping him find his best form. He has settled at Spurs, alongside Eric Dier.
At Argentina, he has another experienced powerhouse alongside him in Otamendi and it seems to suit him – allowing him to be more aggressive.
Consistency is creeping back into his own game and while the travelling and isolation is bad for Spurs – his momentum is growing for both.
