Tottenham so far vindicated for deciding against signing PL forward for £27m this summer – opinion
Tottenham Hotspur appear to have already been vindicated for their decision to not sign Arnaut Danjuma on a permanent deal during the summer transfer window.
The Dutchman spent the second-half of last season on loan with Spurs. Unfortunately, he struggled to break into Antonio Conte’s plans. And it proved to be a frustrating loan for the 26-year-old.
However, there was plenty of change at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the summer. Ange Postecoglou was – eventually – appointed as Conte’s successor. And with that, there were question marks over almost every player within the squad heading into the window.
Tottenham vindicated for not signing Arnaut Danjuma permanently
And one of those would have been Arnaut Danjuma. Reports from the claimed that Tottenham had the option to sign Danjuma permanently for £27 million.

Spurs however, decided against taking up that option. Danjuma meanwhile, would end up joining Everton on a season-long loan before the new campaign.
Danjuma boasted an impressive record during his time with Bournemouth and Villarreal. So Tottenham fans may have hoped that he would sign permanently.
However, based on the evidence from the opening months of this new season, it appears that Spurs made the right call.
Forward yet to really get going at Everton
Of course, Postecoglou’s side sit at the top of the Premier League table. And they have played some of the best football in the entire division.
Their forward line is still a work in progress. But there is absolutely no question that Son Heung-min and James Maddison have been incredible.
Danjuma meanwhile, has only scored one league goal for Everton. He has also been an unused substitute for two of their last three top-flight games. In fact, he has not completed 90 minutes in the Premier League since mid-September.
Everton have been more impressive in recent weeks. But goals remain an issue for Sean Dyche’s side. So the fact that Danjuma has not played more lately is slightly ominous.
He has the talent to be a success at Goodison Park. But it would have been a real gamble for Tottenham to spend nearly £30 million of their budget on him in the summer.
It appears, so far, that they have been vindicated for avoiding that particular gamble.
