Tottenham should reignite interest in Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure

Tottenham have had some horrid luck with injuries lately and they have been dealt another significant blow in their midfield.

Spurs confirmed on Tuesday () that Moussa Sissoko has undergone surgery on a knee problem and he’s not expected to return to training until April.

The 30-year-old central midfielder provides such an energy and tenacity when he plays, but he will now leave a considerable gap in the team.

With Tanguy Ndombele injury prone since his summer arrival, English dup Harry Winks and Eric Dier look the frontrunners for the midfield position.

Manager Jose Mourinho should act now during the January transfer window to strengthen and it’s quite clear the club could do with a midfield reinforcement.

Spurs should turn their attention to Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure, who was previously a target for the North London club.

The reported back in November 2018 that Spurs wanted to sign the Frenchman and that he was valued at £35million at the time.

Spurs should reconsider Doucoure as a target this January, as he could be a brilliant fit to make an instant impact in Mourinho’s team.

Doucoure is a central midfielder with great experience in the Premier League from his time at Vicarage Road and has looked ready for a big-money move for a number of years.

The 27-year-old is a powerhouse that can be compared to Sissoko for his running power and presence in the midfield.

He’s started to regain form for Watford lately and can add an extra goal threat, which is why Spurs should seriously look into a potential swoop.
