Tottenham should monitor Cesar Azpilicueta situation at Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur should monitor the situation of Cesar Azpilicueta at Chelsea.

Apparently, Maurizio Sarri is planning to ruffle some feathers at Stamford Bridge by seeking to replace the Spaniard, who has been one of the Blues’ most consistent players in recent years.

Azpilicueta was signed for just £7 million from Marseille back in 2012 () and has gone on to become a fan favourite having excelled in virtually every position in defence.

But now Sarri is reportedly ready to oust the 29-year-old, with Elseid Hysaj of Napoli being touted as a possible replacement

A club that should be closely monitoring the situation is Tottenham, who could soon do with a player of his quality.

Alderweireld out, Azpilicueta in?

Toby Alderweireld will not be leaving the club this month, but there’s a good chance he could go in the summer.

Alarmingly for Spurs, he’ll be available for just £25 million due to a clause in his contract that became active after they triggered his one-year extensionrecently .

The likelihood is that the Belgian will get snapped up, meaning there’ll be a huge void at the back for Spurs to fill.

But Azpilicueta would be a decent replacement having proven he can play as a centre-back during Antonio Conte’s reign at Chelsea.

He is comfortable operating in a back four or a back five, and Chelsea’s loss would definitely be Tottenham’s gain.

He has shown little sign of declining and still has a razor sharp mind, enabling him to get into excellent defensive positions. It truly would be remarkable if Sarri sold him – if that’s to be the case, Spurs must make themselves a part of the conversation.
