Tottenham should look at previous reported target Matthias Ginter

Tottenham have been one of the best teams in the Premier League during recent years when it comes to their defence, but unfortunately that has fallen away this season and they need to improve that area.

Spurs have conceded 40 goals in their 29 league games so far, which is more than they let in durng the whole of the previous campaign.

The North London club have Jan Vertonghen coming to the end of his contract in the summer, which leaves Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez as the two recognised senior options in the squad.

There is also young pair Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth to compete for a spot in the heart of defence.

But Jose Mourinho’s side need to consider defensive signing for next season if they are to compete with the best in England and should be on the lookout for centre-backs that could improve them.

Spurs should reconsider German defender Matthias Ginter, who was reportedly targeted by them last summer and ticks a lot of boxes for them.

, Spurs and Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid both registered an interest in the centre-back.

The 26-year-old remained with Borussia Monchengladbach and he’s had an impressive individual season so far with the Bundesliga team.

He’s been an ever-present for a side sat fourth in the Bundesliga and is a ball-playing centre-back that has been refined from a right-back to an imposing central figure.

Ginter, who has a World Cup winner’s medal from 2014, is the type of ambitious signing that could improve Spurs at the back and they should put him back on their radar.
