Tottenham should consider shrewd swap with Real Madrid reportedly wanting Eriksen

Tottenham Hotspur should consider asking Real Madrid about the possibility of a player-plus-cash deal if the Spanish giants want Christian Eriksen.

The Danish playmaker has not signed a new deal for the Lilywhites and will be free to leave the club for nothing in the summer of 2020.

Madrid have long been linked with a move for the former Ajax man, with Zinedine Zidane seeing him as an ideal acquisition as part of his summer rebuild.

Interestingly, Real plan to fund a move for Eriksen by selling midfielder Toni Kroos.

If Tottenham feel there is no way of keeping their midfield ace, perhaps that should prompt Spurs to explore the possibility of a swap deal involving the two players.

TBR’s view

With Real supposedly wanting rid of Kroos, Tottenham can replace Eriksen in the same deal.

Although not as mobile or attacking as Eriksen, Kroos is a fine midfielder who can orchestrate play from deep.

He has been one of the finest midfielders in the world over the past few years and was hugely influential in Real’s three straight Champions League triumphs.

Kroos has not had a good season, which has led to speculation that he could be one of a number of casualties of a summer revamp at the Bernabeu, but by no means is he finished at the top level.

It would be very shrewd of Tottenham to sign him up if there was no chance of Eriksen, valued at at least £130 million by Daniel Levy (), staying at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
