Tottenham reportedly want player Jamie Redknapp urged Arsenal to sign in 2019
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly added Brighton & Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk to their summer shortlist with a centre-back expected to be a priority – a player that Jamie Redknapp suggested for Arsenal in 2019.
Dunk, 29, has been in excellent form for Brighton this season – proving a hugely crucial part in the Seagulls’ fight against relegation from the Premier League. Clocking up 26 Premier League outings, Dunk has scored four times.
that Dunk – despite turning 30 later this year – is a target for Tottenham ahead of the summer window. Fulham’s on loan Denmark international Joachim Andersen has also been added to the club’s shortlist.
Back in 2019, ex-Tottenham man Redknapp suggested that Arsenal should try and sign the one-time England international – labelling him a “warrior” and one that simply loves to defend.
“Dunk defended like a warrior and would be an upgrade on any of the centre halves at the Emirates,” in 2019. “He just loves the art of defending. He is exactly what this Arsenal team needs.”

TBR’s view – Dunk would be a top signing for Tottenham
But only if he was 26, or 27. Given that the powerful defender is turning 30 before the turn of the year, spending big on Dunk will see Spurs splash out a big fee – one that they will not get back, given he has little resale value.
He would be excellent for Spurs but he might two or three years left in him at the top level. Surely, if Spurs are to spend a big figure on a commanding defender, they need one that can play for Spurs over the next five years?
Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa, a Tottenham fan, would surely be a better option?
