Tottenham reportedly want player Andros Townsend recently claimed should be in the Champions League

Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha have formed quite the partnership since the England international joined Zaha at Selhurst Park. But that combination could be broken as Tottenham look to pull off one of the deals of this summer’s transfer window. Spurs fans will be excited by his comments on his superstar teammate from last August.

Zaha, 28, has shown in glimpses what he is capable of this season – but the Ivory Coast international has not been his best. Still, 11 goals in 30 Premier League games for a defensive-minded Palace side is not bad at all. Goal claim it is enough, at least, to attract interest from Tottenham and Everton.

The report says both clubs are keen to sign Zaha this summer, but Spurs perhaps have a slight advantage in that they have qualified for Europe – just. Speaking at the start of the season, ex-Spurs man Townsend was full of praise for Zaha – claiming Zaha deserves to be in the Champions League.

“Wilfried Zaha could play for the very best in the world,” Townsend told talkSPORT – in August 2020. “He’s the most talented player I’ve ever played with and he should be playing in the Champions League. He deserves to be playing at the highest level.”

Zaha deserves big transfer, but could Arsenal allegiance block Tottenham?

Zaha is an Arsenal fan. He has made no secret of that during his career, and even told Jamie Carragher’s podcast that he almost joined the Gunners. However, Arsenal chose to sign Nicolas Pepe – his Ivory Coast teammate – from Lille. A move that has probably not worked out quite as planned.

But could that be enough to block Zaha’s move? Spurs fans would certainly be apprehensive about it – but Daniel Levy recently appointed Jose Mourinho as manager and that did not phase him. If Zaha is there for the right price, then the fact he is an Arsenal fan will not deter a move.
