Tottenham reportedly want free agent that Jurgen Klinsmann once described as ‘wonderful to watch’

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Club Brugge goalkeeper Ethan Horvath on a free transfer. The United States international is expected to see his contract expire at the end of June. Jurgen Klinsmann’s comments from 2016 will surely excite fans.

Horvath, 26, only played four times for Brugge last season. In his four years at Brugge, he has clocked up 64 appearances and kept a decent tally of 21 clean sheets. But the arrival of Simon Mignolet has seen the USA ace drop down the pecking order. However, he still enjoyed a great season.

Not only did he win another Belgian title, his third with Brugge, but Horvath also starred on the international scene. In the first ever CONCACAF Nations League final, Horvath replaced Zack Steffen off the bench and produced miracles in a topsy-turvy match that ended in a 3-2 USA win.

The match went into extra-time and Christian Pulisic put the USA 3-2 up with a penalty. Then, in injury time of extra time, Andrea Guardado saw his penalty saved by Horvath – securing the win and preventing a penalty shootout. Horvath also produced numerous other saves throughout.

Tottenham are now interested, Klinsmann – then USA gaffer – spoke about Horvath in 2016, : “Another big talent on the horizon for us is definitely Ethan Horvath. Playing for Molde against Sevilla in the Europa League – it’s wonderful to watch.”

Is Horvath really the kind of player Tottenham need – amid Klinsmann comments?

Spurs can do a lot better between the sticks. But if they do go after Horvath – Tottenham fans should not expect him to be a replacement for Hugo Lloris. That is, even after the comments made by Klinsmann. Horvath will know that having been back-up in Brugge, he would not start for Tottenham.

Bringing Horvath to the club would give Tottenham more cover between the sticks – with Argentina international Paulo Gazzaniga departing on a free. As competition to Joe Hart, a deal for Horvath makes sense.
