Tottenham reportedly want Champions League star that Benitez labelled ‘fantastic’ in 2009
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to activate Peter Gulacsi’s release clause in his RB Leipzig contract which is believed to be worth £11million – a player that Rafa Benitez, who has been linked with Spurs, labelled “fantastic” in 2009.
Gulacsi, who turned 31 on Thursday, came through the ranks at Liverpool before eventually shining at RedBull Salzburg and then Leipzig. He has since clocked up a whopping 222 appearances for Leipzig, and keeping an impressive 72 clean sheets.
that Spurs are interested in a deal for the Hungary international, and are willing to sanction a deal to activate his £11million release clause. It is a figure that Bild deem a ‘ridiculous price’, given it is very low.
Gulacsi, who joined Liverpool during Rafa Benitez’s reign at Anfield in 2008 but failed to make a single senior appearance, was labelled “fantastic” by the Spurs-linked gaffer 12 years ago. Benitez has been linked with Tottenham,
Benitez told Liverpool’s website in 2009, “We are really pleased with him. He’s a fantastic keeper and a really good lad. He’s doing really well but we have a second keeper in Diego Cavalieri and I’m also very happy with him.”

TBR’s view – Gulacsi would be a smart signing
While he is not really an improvement on Hugo Lloris, there are differences to the Frenchman. But the main one is that he is more than three years younger than the Frenchman and at £11million, he solves an issue that could arise this summer.
Better with his feet and probably more commanding from crosses, Gulacsi gives the new Tottenham manager a goalkeeper he can rely upon. The fact Bild state it is ridiculous he could go for so cheap, shows just how highly-rated he is.
With Lloris being linked with a return to France, Gulacsi would be a decent addition.
