Tottenham reportedly priced out of move, Arsenal have to table £55m offer

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach ace Matthias Ginter but north London rivals Arsenal have got to consider taking advantage as Daniel Levy stalls over a move for the defender.

Spurs want the 25-year-old star, who continues to shine in his home country. The World Cup winner help Gladbach keep nine clean sheets in 27 league games last term, scoring two goals.

It is claimed that Tottenham and chairman Levy are willing to splash £32million to land the defender, bringing him in with both Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in the final 12 months of their contracts at Spurs.

Juan Foyth has also been used on the right side of defence, and if the Argentina international does move over to full-back, it leaves a space at the heart of the back line. But Tottenham have been priced out of a move for Ginter.

Indeed, Gladbach want as much as £55million for the Germany international, and it seems unlikely that the north Londoners will pay such a figure for a defender when they are looking to land Giovani Lo Celso.

But across north London, Arsenal still need a centre-back and Ginter would be absolutely perfect. The Gunners are lacking in quality at the back, with Shkodran Mustafi not good enough and Laurent Koscielny likely to leave.

Classy on the ball, strong in the air and offering cover at right-back, Ginter is just what Arsenal need. At £55million he is expensive, but he has plenty of years left in him to become first choice and solve a long-standing issue.

Unai Emery’s side are a long way off breaking into the top two, let alone the top four and if they are to get anywhere near this summer, they need to bring in a top-quality centre-back. Ginter is that man.
