Tottenham receive further vindication for Oliver Skipp transfer decision this summer

One of the crucial decisions facing the new Tottenham Hotspur boss in the summer was always going to be what to do with Oliver Skipp.

Skipp went into the end of last season off the back of an outstanding loan spell at Norwich City. No player featured more as the Canaries won the Championship title at a canter.

It was no surprise therefore, that Daniel Farke wanted to keep the 21-year-old for another year.

And for some, another spell at Carrow Road would have made a lot of sense. It would have seemed like the ideal next step for Skipp as he looked to prove himself in the Premier League.

Ultimately however, Skipp stayed at Tottenham. Norwich meanwhile, would bolster their midfield options in the loan market by signing Billy Gilmour from Chelsea.

For Spurs, that decision has looked like a masterstroke for some time. Skipp has been superb throughout Nuno Espirito Santo’s tenure.

It certainly appears that the midfielder is going to be a key man for Tottenham for years to come.

And looking at the latest reports concerning Gilmour’s situation at Carrow Road, it would appear that Spurs have now received further vindication for the decision to not let Skipp leave on loan once again.

Gilmour struggles highlights Tottenham masterstroke keeping Skipp this season

, Chelsea could consider recalling Gilmour in January. It comes with the 20-year-old proving to be an unused substitute in four of Norwich’s last five league games.

It is a surprise to see Gilmour struggling. He previously shone for the Chelsea first-team when he was given a chance. And it was not that long ago that he was stealing the show against England at Euro 2020.

Norwich are bottom of the Premier League. And it is hard to see them pulling themselves out of danger.

And yet, Gilmour is struggling for game-time. It makes Spurs’ decision to not let Skipp return to the club look a lot more sensible.

Had he endured similar problems, it would have seemed ominous for his Tottenham future.

Instead, he is cementing himself in the Spurs side.
