Tottenham pull plug on move for £22m defender who’s faster than Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah in recent months.

However, a new report from has now claimed that Spurs have cooled their interest in the Blues man.

According to Lyall Thomas, Tottenham are no longer as keen on signing Chalobah due to his recent injury setback. They are now ‘looking elsewhere’ for a new centre-back.

As per the report, Spurs looked into signing him on Deadline Day in the summer. At the time, he was already out with a hamstring problem and two weeks away from a return.

However, Chalobah has since suffered another setback and is now expected to be out until early January, meaning he will have spent almost six months out of action.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have also pulled out of the race to sign the 24-year-old.

“FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund are both out of the race for Trevoh Chalobah,” he wrote on . “Both clubs are not planning his transfer in winter.

“After another muscle bundle tear, the 24 y/o will only be match-fit again at the end of January.”

A shame for Chalobah but Tottenham need someone who can hit the ground running – TBR View

It’s a real shame for Chalobah, as he’s a top talent who could’ve done with a move elsewhere to rekindle his career.

He would’ve been a good shout for Tottenham. The  ace is talented, young, and has extensive Premier League and Champions League experience.

Chalobah is also blessed with outstanding speed. In 2022, he told : “My highest would be probably 34km/h.”

By comparison,  has clocked Spurs full-back Ryan Sessegnon at 33.60km/h.

However, you can understand why clubs may not be willing to make a move for Chalobah in January in wake of this recent injury setback.

Tottenham already have Micky van de Ven missing through injury and could really do with reinforcements who will hit the ground running at Spurs in January.
