Tottenham predicted XI vs Newcastle… Ange Postecoglou drops 28-year-old as ‘unbelievable’ player starts

Ange Postecoglou will be desperate to get back to winning ways as Tottenham Hotspur host Newcastle United today.

Tottenham fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Thursday evening after taking a 1-0 lead in the first half.

For the fifth game running, Spurs failed to press home their advantage and are now without a win since the end of October.

The North Londoners have had a tough time of things over the past few weeks, with Ange Postecoglou trying to guide his side through an ongoing injury crisis. But they have been boosted by the return of a few important players of late as Cristian Romero and Pape Matar Sarr featured against West Ham.

Richarlison also got some more minutes under his belt after returning to action at Manchester City last weekend.

Postecoglou opted to start Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg against the Hammers on Thursday after a decent display at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

It’s fair to say the 28-year-old didn’t exactly pull up any trees and in our view, the ‘’ Sarr should take his place in the side against Newcastle today.

Tottenham predicted XI for Newcastle

Guglielmo Vicario has been unfortunate to concede 13 goals in his last five Premier League appearances given his brilliant start to life at Spurs. But the Italian shot-stopper will undoubtedly continue his run in the side today and could be a busy man.

As for the back four, that’s likely to remain the same with Micky van de Ven out until the new year.

Spurs have been boosted by the return of Romero and he was partnered by Ben Davies on Thursday, with Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro at full-back.

Tottenham’s midfield didn’t seem to work against West Ham as they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities for the front three.

For all of Hojbjerg’s decent defensive work, he took far too long on the ball at times. But the same could be said for Giovani Lo Celso and Yves Bissouma.

In our view, Sarr should come in to replace Hojbjerg to give Spurs extra energy in the middle of the park, with Lo Celso and Bissouma keeping their place.

There are doubts over Son Heung-Min’s fitness after the Tottenham skipper picked up a knock against West Ham.

Postecoglou will be hopeful the 31-year-old is fit enough to play, while Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson could continue out wide.

Kulusevski has impressed in the middle of the park against Villa and City but with the return of Sarr, he may be pushed back out wide.

Here is our predicted Tottenham lineup for the clash with Newcastle in full.
