Tottenham player now thinks 18-year-old teammate is ‘good enough’ for first-team football

Tottenham youngster Jamie Donley has tipped academy teammate Will Lankshear to one day break into Ange Postecogolou’s first-team.

The 19-year-old attacker has emerged as one of Tottenham’s most exciting academy products, with Donley already making his senior debut this season after an incredible year at youth level.

And Lankshear is another prospect who could be set for a move into the senior game, with the record-breaking 18-year-old striker scoring an incredible 14 goals and bagging 12 assists for Tottenham’s U-21s.

Now, , Donley has tipped Lankshear to soon make the leap to Tottenham’s first-team with both players showing this season they’re simply too good for academy football.

Donley said when asked about Lankshear’s chances of breaking into the Tottenham first-team: “Yes, definitely. He’s got a great attitude and he’s a great lad. He just keeps scoring goals and he’s doing really well.

“I was doing really well and I got my chance so he’s just got to keep his head down, working hard and I think he’s definitely good enough so he’ll get a chance hopefully.”

Tottenham have been here countless times before where a promising academy players dominates at youth level and looks primed for the step up to the senior game, only to completely falter and stall.

For Donley and Lankshear, Tottenham face a task they will not want to fail another time round, with the two forwards genuine contenders for the first-team if they can succeed at post-academy football.

Indeed, a loan spell would be the most logical step forward for the pair, though Postecoglou could go one better and give Donley and Lankshear minutes before the end of the season in the Premier League.

The Australian manager is no stranger to giving youngsters the chance to impress, and cameo appearances in the final weeks of the campaign could be huge for Donley and Lankshear in their development.
