Tottenham should pursue Philippe Coutinho as Christian Eriksen replacement
Tottenham will undoubtedly head into the summer transfer market looking for statement signings, with Jose Mourinho likely want his own stamp putting on his squad.
The Spurs incumbent added Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn to his ranks during the January transfer window and he surely won’t want to stop there.
Christian Eriksen was the big exit during last month. The Dane ended speculation surrounding his future by signing for Inter Milan.
That leaves Tottenham with a void to fill in the No.10 role and a player capable of replacing the 27-year-old might be on Mourinho’s list of targets.
Giovani Lo Celso isn’t a bad candidate to step forward and stake a claim to fill Eriksen’s boots. The Argentine has done alright in a deeper central midfield role, however, so a player with some flexibility might be ideal.
One man who should be in Mourinho’s sights is Barcelona outcast, Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian is currently on loan at Bayern Munich where he is enjoying a decent campaign.
The Catalans reportedly want rid of Coutinho in the summer. reports that their asking price for the 27-year-old is now just £77 million.
During his season at Bayern, the flamboyant ex-Liverpool man has spent the majority of his time playing as a No.10.
He has seven goals and eight assists to his name but it seems likely he will return to Barcelona in the summer.
During his time at Anfield, Coutinho did spend the majority of his time on the left. He played 103 games out wide and 85 in the hole behind a striker.
That level of versatility could prove invaluable for Mourinho and if he can get the magician back to his best £77 million will look like an absolute steal.

Coutinho would need no introduction to supporters of Premier League football and the player may well fancy a return to England.
After several years away there might be a small settling in period but he certainly possesses the attributes to be a hit at Tottenham.
His pass success ratio this season is up at 83.8% and he is averaging over three shots per game at the Allianz Arena
One stumbling block might be his excessive wages. The 61-cap international earns at Barcelona and that could prove a stretch for Tottenham.
If things do fall into place, however, and a deal can be done, Tottenham could get themselves the perfect replacement for Eriksen.
