Tottenham ‘open’ to bringing £110,000-a-week Premier League star to N17 – journalist

Tottenham Hotspur are “open” to bringing James Maddison to north London, according to Dean Jones.

The transfer insider also reckons Spurs will have other “top players” on their wishlist this summer.

Tottenham have enjoyed a fruitful transfer window, bringing in six new signings.

Spurs hit the ground running by signing Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster early on in the summer.

Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet (loan) and Djed Spence then followed.

Tottenham don’t seem to be done yet either, with several other players being linked with the N17 outfit.

Maddison, who Spurs have reportedly sought after for a long time, seems to be on their radar once again.

Jones wrote on : “If they’re looking at James Maddison, which they are open to, then there has to be a realistic chance that there are other players on the list too who are going to be top players.”

Earlier this month, Jones claimed the England international fancies a move to north London ahead of Newcastle, another club reportedly in pursuit.

“We’re in the situation now where James Maddison has had an approach from Newcastle,” .

“The offer that Newcastle have put to Leicester isn’t enough. And they’ve got to decide whether they go back with a second bid.

“They have not been encouraged to go and bid again for James Maddison. And I don’t get any signs so far that James Maddison actually wants to join Newcastle.

“From what I hear, James Maddison wants to join Tottenham or Arsenal.”

“In the England team every day of the week”

Tottenham were reportedly after Christian Eriksen earlier this summer, but Manchester United won the race.

And Giovani Lo Celso’s future at Spurs appears uncertain amid links with the likes of Villarreal and Fiorentina.

So there’s scope for Antonio Conte to potentially bring in a creative midfielder.

And Maddison would be a great shout, as he’s a world-class, Premier League-proven player in the peak of his career.

The attacker was back to his best last season, in all competitions.

Two Tottenham legends have also lauded Maddison in recent years.

Harry Redknapp told Maddison in 2020, as per the : ‘We’ve been short of that person who can just do something fantastic.

“And I would have you in the England team every day of the week, I really would.”
