Tottenham now reportedly want to sign ‘complete’ £35m right-back talent likened to Kyle Walker
Tottenham Hotspur finally have the chance to bolster their ranks as the January transfer window prepares to spring open.
It’s no secret that Spurs could do with bringing in a new right wing-back. It has been a problem area for a while now.
Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal have done well in spells, but Antonio Conte will surely want an improvement on both.
Meanwhile, Djed Spence doesn’t seem to have done enough to convince the Tottenham boss to start him regularly.
According to ‘s Alasdair Gold, Spurs are prioritising an attacker and a right wing-back next month.
Lyon teenager Malo Gusto is apparently one of the right-backs on Conte’s wishlist.
As per football.london, he is ‘a Ligue 1 regular with European experience and seen as the next big talent in French football.
‘With 18 months left on his contract, the France U21 international ticks the boxes of Tottenham’s transfer profile although he would need to develop his attacking output to impress Conte with just one assist so far this season, adding to his five from the previous campaign.’
Gusto established himself as Lyon’s starting right-back last season and has retained that role this year.
He only made his debut in January 2021, but is already gaining a reputation as one of the best young full-backs in Europe.
According to the , Lyon value Gusto – who has also been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle – at £35million.

Last year, deemed Gusto a ‘complete full-back’ and likened him to Kyle Walker.
Meanwhile, made a comparison between Gusto and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
‘Tall and rangy with the swagger and technique of a number 10, Gusto often gives the impression of a right-sided midfielder being asked to fill in. In fact, that’s not far from the truth.
‘Having started out as an attacking midfielder, Gusto was enlisted as an emergency full-back at OL’s academy with the age category above suffering from injuries.

However, while Gusto seems like a superb talent, questions remain over both his current level.
Lyon legend Sidney Govou slated the youngster in October, telling L’Equipe – via – that he has “trouble defending”.
And Gold’s report suggests Gusto’s attacking output would need to improve under Conte.
With that in mind, it looks as though Tottenham could do with a more established RWB. Spurs already have Spence waiting in the wings as a prospect.
