Tottenham now close to agreement over ‘rare’ player on transfer deadline day in shock move

Tottenham were not expected to make any signings on transfer deadline day – but a unique agreement is now close.

It seemed as if outgoings would be the order of the day at Hotspur Way – with Spurs focused on finding productive loans for their young talents.

Josh Keeley is one prospect who is heading out of N17, with the goalkeeping prodigy signing a new contract at Tottenham ahead of a loan move to Leyton Orient.

Now – however – a “rare” player is nearing an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur close to Johnny Cardoso agreement

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Tottenham are close to reaching a “priority” agreement to sign Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis in future.

The reliable Italian journalist states that this prospective deal is part of a move which will see Giovani Lo Celso return to Real Betis.

Romano adds that Tottenham will also “buy a percentage” of any cash Real Betis receive from selling Cardoso to another club in future – in case Spurs decide against signing the United States international later down the line.

The 22-year-old, who is a defensive midfielder, made 17 appearances in La Liga for Real Betis last season, scoring one goal while also providing two assists.

Cardoso has also won 15 caps for the United States, with The Athletic the man from Denville as a “rare combination of physicality, intelligence and grace” – remarkably, he only started to play as a defensive midfielder in his late teenage years.

Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis

Romano does not expand on the deal involving Lo Celso to Real Betis, so let’s take a look at the details.

A story from Spanish news outlet states that Real Betis have only offered less than £5m for Lo Celso so far during negotiations on deadline day, which is much less than Tottenham want.

However, Romano’s sudden news involving Cardoso would suggest Spurs and Real Betis are making some progress in talks over the Argentina international, so make sure to keep an eye on this situation.
