Tottenham must repeat Archie Gray trick and sign ‘unplayable’ winger before it’s too late

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer window is well and truly underway after snapping up Archie Gray from Leeds United.

Spurs have made a habit of picking up talented prospects in recent years and Archie Gray certainly falls into that category. The 18-year-old enjoyed an exceptional breakthrough season in the Championship with Leeds United last term, racking up 52 appearances under Daniel Farke.

Despite a positive start to the transfer window, Ange Postecoglou will be under no illusions about the need to bolster his squad further.

The Aussie was particularly short of options in the wide areas last season, with Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic missing the majority of the campaign through injury.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for talented youngster Desire Doue but they will need to move fast to avoid being beaten to his signature.

Tottenham should step up Desire Doue interest

Much like Gray, Doue has just enjoyed a breakthrough season at Stade Rennais last time out where he netted four times and provided six assists in all competitions.

Gray was also attracting interest from a host of top sides before sealing a switch to Tottenham on Tuesday. Doue is no different in that regard, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Arsenal already linked

TBR Football revealed just last month that Spurs have enquired about snapping up the talented youngster this summer.

But with interest in Doue growing, Tottenham will need to act fast if they wish to avoid being beaten to the punch by other top clubs in Europe.

Doue is perfect for Tottenham

As well as displaying plenty of promise last season, Doue has shown he is ready to make an instant impact right away should he secure a move to Tottenham.

The 19-year-old is a versatile player as he can operate off either flank and in an advanced midfield role.

Like Gray, who can operate in midfield and at right-back, Doue’s versatility would likely lead to more opportunities under Postecoglou as he bids to adjust to Premier League football.

The French starlet has undoubtedly offered up his best displays off the left-hand side though and Spurs are lacking a player of this particular profile.

While Postecoglou’s wide men proved effective last season, none more so than Brennan Johnson, who racked up 15 goal involvements, none are particularly effective when it comes to beating their men.

Indeed, according to statistics site , Doue averaged more successful take-ons per 90 minutes (3.42) than Johnson (1.05), Heung-min Son (1.20) Dejan Kulusevski (1.76) and Timo Werner (1.44).

It feels like a no-brainer from Spurs’ point of view as the ‘‘ French youngster fits the profile of signings they usually target – a player with plenty of upside but capable of challenging for a starting spot right off the bat.
