Tottenham missed out on Asensio despite offering to make him their star signing

Tottenham wanted to make Asensio their star signing.

Reports from claim that Real Madrid’s 25-year-old attacking midfielder had offers this summer.

Both AC Milan and Tottenham wanted to take the Spaniard on over the summer.

The report even claims that Tottenham were willing to make the midfielder their ‘star signing’.

However, Asensio opted to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and fight for his place.

So far, though, Asensio is losing that fight in the Spanish capital.

The playmaker has done very little this season so far and looks to be low down the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti.

The likes of Isco and Gareth Bale, who were both heavily sidelined under Zinedine Zidane, have been used ahead of Asensio this season.

It looks like his decision to remain was a poor one, and Spurs could really use him.

The Lilywhites have found creating chances to be difficult this season.

Asensio has a fantastic left-foot and thrives when going forward and creating chances for himself and his teammates.

Tottenham don’t have a clear creative attacking option that they can consistently rely on.

Harry Kane needs to be the club’s primary goalscorer and Dele Alli hasn’t been at it for a long time.

However, in Asensio there’s a player who can create from either wing or from the 10 position.

For Real Madrid he’s had freedom to attack and with Spurs willing to make him their star signing, he may have had the sae treatment in London.

If Asensio’s game time doesn’t pick up then there’s no reason why he won’t agree to a move in January should Spurs still show an interest.

This could prove to be a good signing if it goes through.

The Lilywhites clearly miss a player of his profile and could fill a void by bringing him to the club.
