Tottenham midfielder sends Instagram message to Christian Eriksen after Denmark goal

Christian Eriksen helped Denmark beat Iceland 3-0 away from home in Sunday’s UEFA Nations League clash and keep his side in the hunt for Nations League play-offs – and Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has sent him a message on Instagram.

Eriksen, 28, netted his 33rd goal in Denmark colours in what was his 99th international cap after going through on goal in the second half – following an Iceland attack. He was, somewhat fortuitously, played through on goal by Hojbjerg.

The latter has impressed since he joined Tottenham from Southampton, laying on an excellent assist for Serge Aurier during Sunday’s 6-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. His assist for Eriksen was less incisive, but still just as effective.

Eriksen has endured a difficult spell at Inter Milan, scoring just four goals for Inter Milan in 28 league and cup appearances. Hojbjerg’s assist came after Iceland had a long-range shot blocked by the midfielder, and the ball ran through to Eriksen.

However, he remains at Inter but impressed on Sunday alongside Hojbjerg, as Denmark moved onto four points in Group 2 – two behind Belgium and three behind England, after Gareth Southgate’s side beat Belgium 2-1.

£15million () summer signing Hojbjerg posted on Instagram to confirm he would be claiming the assist, while also sending a message to Eriksen.
