Tottenham may beat Premier League club to £40m signing this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are still searching for a new midfielder this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his options in the centre of the park.

Conor Gallagher has been strongly linked with Tottenham for such a long time now.

However, Gallagher could well be on his way to join Atletico Madrid this summer.

In that case, Tottenham need to look elsewhere.

Scott McTominay is a player who has been linked to Tottenham in recent times.

Speaking on , Duncan Castles has been discussing Spurs’ interest in McTominay.

The journalist says that Tottenham are strongly interested in McTominay, claiming that Spurs should be able to beat Fulham to the £40m man should they wish to make a move.

Tottenham should beat Fulham to Scott McTominay

Castles shared what he knows about the midfielder.

“They are well off what Manchester United have been asking for McTominay, which is £40m, which I’d be surprised if they get in the current marketplace,” Castles said.

“I think one to note here is that Tottenham are also strongly interested in McTominay and ultimately should be able to outbid Fulham for the player as well as having a higher status and being able to offer European football.

“I think in all likelihood we will see McTominay move to another Premier League club in this transfer window.”

What Jose Mourinho has said about Scott McTominay

McTominay may be coming to Tottenham to play under Ange Postecoglou, but perhaps McTominay’s biggest fan is a former Tottenham manager.

Indeed, Jose Mourinho was the man who brought McTominay through at Manchester United, and the Portuguese gaffer has recently said that he almost loves McTominay like a son.

“I don’t want to be unfair to people and I will be unfair but when you play a kid, the kid becomes your kid for life. That is always my feeling,” Mourinho said.

“So I look to Raphael Varane [at Real Madrid] now at the end of his career, he is my kid.

“When I look to Scott McTominay, [Paul] Pogba on the bench, play Scott McTominay in Champions League against Sevilla, he is my boy.

“When I go club to club, I find my boys and they are always going to be my boys.”

Postecoglou may be the man to bring McTominay to Tottenham, but it’s Mourinho who McTominay owes a lot of his success to.
