Tottenham fans should ignore Mauricio Pochettino speculation and focus on the facts

The footballing world was thrown into disarray on Thursday morning when Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane resigned after just under three years at the club.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino was immediately linked with the job by reports in the yet Spurs supporters should be reassured by the actual facts of the matter.

Despite widespread fanciful speculation claiming Pochettino is set to leave Spurs, the details of his contract and his past public statements suggest the manager will remain at Tottenham.

Most importantly, the Argentine manager signed a multi-million pound, five-year contract this past week.

And crucially, according to ’s Spanish football expert Sid Lowe, there is no release clause or verbal agreement between Pochettino and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that would allow the 46-year-old to easily depart to the Bernabeu.

The fact that Pochettino recently committed himself to Tottenham Hotspur for a half-decade reveals that he is not seeking a move away from the project he has built at the club.

Furthermore, the Argentine has spoken glowingly in numerous interviews about his desire to continue his success in north London and lead Tottenham through a defining period after the opening of their new stadium.

In with David Hynter following Spurs’ Champions League defeat of Real in November 2017, Pochettino described Tottenham as both the “most important” and “best” club in the world.

The ex-Southampton manager also expressed his excitement at the direction of Tottenham and the new opportunities presented by their new stadium.

“I love to work and feel part of the project; to share and create something special. I feel very important at Tottenham, very comfortable and I enjoy the journey a lot,” Pochettino said.

And the Spurs boss struck similar tones after signing an extended deal at the club on May 24, describing his delight at the new “world-class” stadium and his consensus with Levy.

“Daniel and I have spoken at length about our aspirations for this football club,” Pochettino told . “We both share the same philosophies to achieve long-term, sustainable success. This is a special club.”

Pochettino’s emphasis on sustainability and long-term success starkly contrast from what one would expect of a want-away manager who is eager to take on the notoriously pressurised and hectic assignment of managing Real Madrid.

Spurs supporters have little reason for concern, as Mauricio Pochettino’s contract, public comments, and managerial philosophy will dissuade him from joining Los Blancos this summer.
