Tottenham manager: Gary Lineker backs Spurs to appoint club icon
Tottenham have been without a manager since sacking Jose Mourinho. Now, Gary Lineker has waded in on Twitter to suggest that Jurgen Klinsmann is the man for Daniel Levy to appoint.
It’s been a farcical search for a new incumbent. Antonio Conte, Gennaro Gattuso, Paulo Fonseca and Nuno Espirito Santo have all been strongly linked with the vacancy.
With pre-season set to start, the club desperately need a manager. New players are needed at Spurs and therefore the club needs to get a manager sorted.
Lineker played for Tottenham during his pomp. He spent three years at White Hart Lane, scoring 80 goals in 138 appearances, leading the team to FA Cup glory in 1991.
Now, he believes that Spurs should appoint a fan favourite in their quest to get themselves a new manager.
Klinsmann also spent two spells at Tottenham as a player. He fired 38 goals in 60 appearances and was known for his trademark dive celebration in North London.
The 56-year-old has spent time as a manager. He spent two years with the Germany national team, a year at Bayern Munich and five years with the United States.
His last position came during the 2019/20 campaign when he managed Hertha Berlin, although he was only in charge for three months.
Spurs are running out of options though. If Turkish reports suggesting Espirito Santo is heading for Fenerbahce are true, it’s another setback for Tottenham.
Something needs sorting and Klinsmann does know the club. He understands the principles and wouldn’t overly mind working with a restricted budget.
He has a knack of improving players and he’d relish the chance to get the club back on an upward trajectory.
Whether he’s a big enough name for Tottenham at this stage, however, remains to be seen.
