Tottenham made a big mistake last summer, £20m player should never have been allowed to leave
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou should have been able to foresee a mistake they made last summer.
It was a busy transfer window for Spurs, one dominated by the future of Harry Kane.

And when he did eventually leave for Bayern Munich, Spurs could then effectively assess their squad before the window closed.
Moreover, although the signings they did make have proved brilliant ones, Tottenham failed to cover themselves in key areas.
Even with the quality of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, the side should have never started the season with three senior centre-backs – especially when Postecolgou had no plan to use Eric Dier.
It’s easy to state that Tottenham should have signed another defender in the summer, but targets aren’t always achievable.
However, what should be deemed inexcusable is Tottenham and Postecoglou’s decision to let Joe Rodon leave on loan.
Although he’s perhaps not the perfect Postecoglou defender, Rodon must be considered a stylistic upgrade on Dier.
Rodon is now enjoying an excellent loan spell at Leeds, one that suits the player and his new club, but Spurs should have been selfish.
Ange Postecoglou made a mistake letting Joe Rodon leave Tottenham in the summer
It seems clear that Rodon isn’t envisioned as a long-term player for Postecoglou, and that’s fair enough.
However, the defender is good on the ball, a player who could have continued the excellent work by Tottenham’s starting duo.

Ben Davies has recently been praising Rodon for his ability to play out from the back – something Spurs are desperate for right now.
The caveat to this argument is that with Rodon’s loan at Leeds, the club should now be able to extract a good price for the defender next summer.
Tottenham are now said to be willing to sell the Welsh international for £20m.
However, that could ultimately cost Spurs in the here and now.
It did seem as if Tottenham may have made a mistake selling Davinson Sanchez for , a player who was starting to adapt to Postecoglou’s style.
However, Joe Rodon now looks like the obvious candidate that should have stayed.
And although it may be easy to say that now, this situation should also been foreseeable at the end of the summer.
