Tottenham lose out in race to sign £25m player, he’s about to undergo medical elsewhere

Tottenham Hotspur won’t be signing Club Brugge winger Antonio Nusa, with Brentford now set to beat them to the punch.

Nusa has emerged as one of the targets for Premier League clubs as the final days of the window kick on.

At one point, it looked like Tottenham would win the race for Nusa. Spurs apparently entered negotiations to sign the youngster and looked like getting a deal done for around £25m.

However, reports over the weekend put Brentford at the front of the queue after they agreed a £30m deal for Nusa and now, it looks like that deal is set to get done.

Brentford beat Tottenham to Antonio Nusa deal

According to, speaking on the show this morning, Nusa is due to have a medical with Brentford, effectively ending any hopes Tottenham had of landing him.

“Brentford look to have beaten Tottenham in the race to sign teenage Club Brugge forward Antonio Nusa. Nusa is set to undergo a medical with the Bees after the two clubs agreed a £25.6m fee,” Crook said.

Nusa is then set to go back to Brugge for the rest of the season before moving to the Bees in the summer.

Thomas Frank is said to have promised the teenager first-team opportunities, something he felt he might not get at Tottenham.

One to keep tabs on in the future

Nusa is taking a bit of a gamble here by moving to Brentford in the hope of it being a natural career progression for him before then earning a bigger move elsewhere.

Tottenham, then, will be keeping a close eye on his development and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Nusa’s name mentioned in future windows down the line.

Of course, the reverse of that is he struggles at Brentford and ends up back in mainland Europe and never quite gets that big move.

It’s a bold call from Nusa to effectively turn down Tottenham here and one he’ll hope pays off.
