Tottenham loanee Gil shares how he’s preparing for Premier League return

Bryan Gil that he has really worked on the physical side of his game after finding life difficult following his move to Tottenham Hotspur last summer.

Gil has made a promising start to his loan spell back in La Liga. He left for Valencia after failing to make a single Premier League start this season.

He managed to shine in the heavy defeat to Barcelona recently. And he was labelled Los Che’s ‘most outstanding footballer‘ by the media.

With that, Gil is leaving Tottenham with plenty to ponder ahead of the summer and his potential return to North London.

Of course, some may wonder if he will ever be suited to the Premier League. His emergence in Spain prompted Spurs to sign him in the first place. So there are no guarantees that his form for Valencia will translate into success back in the Premier League.

Interestingly, Gil looks to have one eye on what will help him should he return to England. The 21-year-old opened up on finding the physical side of the game much trickier following his move to Spurs.

“It shows a lot, the truth is it is a bit higher intensity level,” when asked about the Premier League. “Physically I noticed it. The adaptation for me was difficult.

“It’s a very physical football, back and forth. Being there has been good for me, even if I didn’t play whatever I wanted. I’m more mature. I changed habits such as food, had a chef at home and put on two kilos. Even so, I noticed that it was not enough for the physical level in the Premier League. In Valencia I still work a lot on resistance, physique, in case I have to come back, to be prepared.”

Tottenham fans will take encouragement from Gil working on his physical attributes

There were glimpses of what Gil could do following his move to Tottenham. But it did appear that he may struggle to cope with the demands of the Premier League due to his stature.

Obviously, he would have been forgiven for wanting to stick to what works in La Liga. He is on loan with Valencia. And his work with Sevilla earned him that chance with the Spain national team.

So the Tottenham fans will take a lot of encouragement from Gil wanting to continue improving his physicality while he is away from the club.

If it clicks for him, he could be a real talent for Spurs in the years to come. And he looks to be doing plenty to give himself the best chance.
