Serge Aurier performance highlights huge mistake Tottenham made in the summer

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Southampton 2-1 at their new stadium on Saturday to finish a turbulent week with a flourish.

Goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane saw Spurs over the line allowing the team ๊to put their embarrassing Carabao Cup exit to Colchester firmly behind them.

Boss Mauric♑io Pochettino must have been fearing the worst on 31 minutes when right-back Serge Aurier picked up his second booking and was dismissed from the field.

Fortunately, the Ivorian’s moment of madness didn’t cost Tottenham, although it enhances the problems on the rig𝐆ht-hand side of the back four for Pochettino.

The 26-year-old was making his third appearance of the campaign against the Sa💦ints and would have hoped to earn a consistent run🅺 in the team.

He will now miss a game through suspensi🌱on and that gives someone else a chance to pin dow♎n a place in the Tottenham team.

Aurier’s erratic display highlights a𝐆 glaring £ꦍ20 million mistake that Pochettino and Spurs made during the summer months.

Kieran Trippier was allowed to depart for Atletico Madrid during the summer  and the amount received by Tottenham is starting to♌ look like daylight ღrobbery as far as Los Rojiblancos are concerned.

Persistence

The England international was a solid player for Spurs and although he h✤ad an indifferent season during 2018/19, Pochettino should have persisted with t𒁃he right-back.

Kyl༺e Walker-Peters has looked a little raw and naive and although Aurier is experienced he highlighted his potential to be ill-disciplined at the weekend.

Tripper got his first taste of the Madrid-derby at the weekend as was rock solid as Atletico earned a 0-0 draw agai𝓀nst one of their rivals for the La Liga title.

Selling the 29-year-old made zero sense. Okay so there wasn’t long left on his contract but on current form, he would have earned himself a new one fꦍor sure.

Whilst Tottenham struggle to find a capable replacemen🐈t within their🙈 current ranks, Trippier goes from strength to strength in the Spanish capital.

With the season just seven games old, the decision to offload Tripper for such a paltry fee already looks 🧸like a foolish decision by the Premier League outfit.
