Tottenham keen to sign £17m Premier League centre-back who Roy Hodgson has labelled a ‘colossus’

Tottenham Hotspur have now identified a Premier League centre-back who can bolster Ange Postecologu’s options at the back next season.

Having recently sanctioned permanent departures for Joe Rodon and Eric Dier, Tottenham look slightly light in defence.

🍬Although neither played a significant role last term for Postecoglou, Spurs already struggled for solutions during Micky van de Ven’s injury and Cristian Romero’s lengthy suspension.

🦹But with just 19-year-old Ashley Phillips and utility man Ben Davies beyond the trio, one injury could again cause a lot of concern.

꧂Postecoglou needs another centre-back to complete his set, someone who can help navigate Spurs’ huge fixture list this season with the addition of Europa League football.

And although Tottenham have also been linked with Marc Guehi♋ of late, it’s actually a different Crystal Palace defender they are now said to be considering a move for.

According to , Spurs could make a bid for Joachim Andersen before August ends.

൲The report was initially covering both Liverpool and Newcastle United’s interest in Guehi – a player Spurs seem to have cooled their interest in.

༒And when discussing Guehi’s centre-back partner, Andersen, the information insisted that Tottenham are monitoring the Danish international alongside Liverpool and Newcastle.

🦩At 28-years-old, it would be something of a surprise if Spurs made a move for Andersen, who cost Palace back in 2021.

✨Roy Hodgson once called Andersen a ‘’ for his performances in the Premier League – an accurate description for a defender who is just as good with his passing distributions as he is his duels.

🌠However, with Van de Ven and Romero enjoying such a settled partnership – would it make sense to sign a player who would also want to start immediately?

♒Andersen is good enough to feature in the first eleven of any Premier League side, and would likely cost a disproportionate fee were Tottenham planning to use him as back up.

ౠThat being said, Andersen would definitely be a player capable of thriving under Postecoglou, one of the best passers in England’s top flight.

In other news, Postecoglou’s ‘dream’ Tottenham targetඣ has unfortunately now agreed a five-year deal elsewhere.
