Report: Tottenham keen on signing £51m Alessandro Bastoni in 2023 but Manchester United in the mix too

The name Alessandro Bastoni was one that kept cropping up in the early days of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur were the club most keen on signing Bastoni as Fabio Paratici made him the number one defensive target. Bastoni, in the end, stayed with Inter Milan but there remains questions on his future and a move in the next few windows isn’t being ruled out.

Indeed, according to this weekend, both Manchester United and Manchester City are now looking to sign Bastoni if they can. However, all is not lost for Tottenham either, with the publication claiming that Spurs are still lingering in the background when it comes to Bastoni.

Regarded as a ‘superstar‘ defender, Bastoni has been nothing but superb for Inter over the last few seasons. It’s easy to see why Tottenham pushed so hard for him, and it’s clear as day why both Manchester clubs want him as well.

Any move for Bastoni is likely to cost north of £50m for any willing club. Spurs were said to be quoted around the £51m mark in the summer, and it’s hard to see Inter having changed their stance that much.

TBR’s View: Bastoni A Brilliant Signing

Alessandro Bastoni is the sort of player who walks into any Premier League team and improves them. And that includes City, United, and Tottenham.

You do feel he is what Antonio Conte wants to give his back three a fearsome look alongside Eric Dier and Cristian Romero. But for United, it’s easy to see why they want him as well, given Harry Maguire’s struggles.

Ultimately, whoever gets Bastoni next year is in for a treat. Not many players represent ‘home runs’ for a buying club but Bastoni is as close as can get for a defender at this moment in time.
