Tottenham join Real Madrid in showing interest in signing ‘fantastic’ Chelsea youngster ahead of January

Tottenham Hotspur’s search for fresh young talent continues with the Lilywhites putting a big emphasis on youth recruitment.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side has seen a big turnaround over the last 18 months since inheriting an ageing side from Antonio Conte.

It has not been the most promising of starts for Tottenham in the Premier League but there is still a lot of reasons to be excited for the future.

The Lilywhites are able to boast one of the most exciting groups of youth players in their current squad following a strong recruitment drive in recent years.

Postecoglou’s arrival has seen a big emphasis put on signing players for the long-term with the likes of Archie Gray arriving over the summer.

And it looks like that is not going to slow down any time soon with a potential addition from their London rivals now on the radar.

Tottenham interested in Chelsea youngster

The search for young talent continues in north London despite having some extremely promising youngsters coming through their ranks already.

Tottenham have now lodged a bid for the St Patrick’s Athletic striker Mason Melia who is also wanted by Arsenal.

But the Lilywhites are eyeing a player who is already playing within the Premier League as a potential option for the future.

According to the , Tottenham are one of the sides who are showing an interest in the Chelsea centre-back Josh Acheampong.

The versatile defender is, however, also receiving interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world ahead of the January window.

Real Madrid are said to be closely monitoring the 18-year-old’s situation having held a long-standing interest in the youngster.

But there is also a real interest from within the Premier League with Spurs joined by the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United in eyeing the defender.

However, TBR football have been told by Chelsea sources that there is little desire to allow Acheampong to leave with a new contract being targeted by the club.

Who is Josh Acheampong?

The 18-year-old has featured for Chelsea in their EFL Cup game against Barrow earlier in the season after coming off the bench.

But it was Mauricio Pochettino who provided him with his Chelsea debut last season coming on against Tottenham in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

Although the majority of Acheampong’s minutes have come in the Premier League 2, Enzo Maresca has told the media of his delight in the defender’s development.

“From my point of view, it is always sad to leave players out of pre-season, the squad or the XI because they work the same,” he said during a recent press conference.

“For Trevoh, we have Wes, Axel, Tosin there and a young profile like Josh Acheampong who is doing fantastic.”
