Tottenham interested in signing RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer

Tottenham’s 5-1 win over Newcastle and Arsenal’s 3-0 loss at Crystal Palace has livened up the race for the final remaining Champions League place.

The north London derby is still to come, which looks like being a huge game in the chase for next season’s Champions League.

There is still the outside chance that Chelsea could slip out if they implode after Saturday’s 4-1 loss against Brentford, but it really looks like a north London scrap for fourth.

Of course, which European competition Spurs are in next season may impact their summer transfer plans, and one target is Konrad Laimer.

, as translated by , say that Tottenham are battling Manchester United for the RB Leipzig midfielder this summer.

Spurs have apparently been tracking the 24-year-old since Jose Mourinho’s reign, when Leipzig beat them in the Champions League knockout rounds.

Laimer’s contract runs out in 2023 and he is apparently set for talks over a new deal when the season has ended in the summer.

Tottenham could capitalise on that by nipping in there before negotiations are concluded and get a deal done when the player has just one year left.

show Laimer had 189 successful pressures in six Champions League group games, the highest in the competition this season.

Laimer was man of the match as RB Leipzig defeated Manchester City in December, and he has been compared to N’Golo Kante by .

That same profile described him as the division’s toughest-tackling midfielder, and that aggression seems perfectly suited to an Antonio Conte side.

Laimer also has five goals and four assists this season, having netted a double in a 4-1 win at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening.
