Tottenham Hotspur’s apparent £36m target struggled under Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri
Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with a summer interest in midfielder Amadou Diawara this week. TalkSPORT hasthat Spurs registered a £36 million approach for the Napoli midfielder this summer. Targeted as a potential Mousa Dembele replacement, a deal never got passed this stage. New Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti said the Guinea midfielder was not for sale and that was that.
Weirdly, despite Tottenham’s desire to get a hold of the 21-year-old, he was not so popular with the manager of one current Premier League rival.
New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was the player’s manager last season. Despite the apparent promise of Diawara, the Italian was clearly not keen.

The young midfielder spent most of last season on the bench. He started just five Serie A fixtures last season, with most of his appearances coming off the bench.
Of course, competition was fierce in the Napoli midfield. The likes of Marek Hamsik and Chelsea newbie Jorginho are hard to replace.
But the fact that Sarri was not so keen on such an expensive Tottenham target perhaps suggests he is not yet ready for the Premier League.
