Tottenham Hotspur set Jose Mourinho £21.4m price tag on AS Roma transfer target Eric Dier

According to , Tottenham Hotspur have told their former boss Jose Mourinho how much AS Roma will have to pay to take Eric Dier with him to the Serie A this summer.

Mourinho has been as replacing Paulo Fonseca at the Stadio Olimpico from the start of next season, and has already begun plotting raids on north London in hopes of improving the Giallorossi squad.

Reports by last week suggested Dier and Spurs teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were two options being considered, but noted that neither currently wish to leave the Premier League for a taste of the Italian game.

Dier particularly is not thought to be keen on reuniting with Mourinho as the centre-half is settled in the English capital, and hinted at feeling unfairly treated during the Portuguese tactician’s time in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as well.

Nonetheless, reports in Italy continue to tout Dier as a potential option for Mourinho as the £72,000-per-week () enforcer is his top target to improve the Roma backline, while Spurs have let it be known that he is available for €25million (£21.4m).

Tottenham’s asking price and Dier’s wages are considered to be important figures but not too high for Roma CEO Tiago Pinto to meet, should he look to begin negotiations with Daniel Levy which are expected to be complicated for the Serie A side.

TBR’s view:

It would be very unlikely for Dier to accept a move to Roma this summer if the Tottenham defender did indeed feel unfairly treated by Mourinho in north London, but it is less of a surprise for the 27-year-old to be a target for the Portuguese’s Roma rebuild.

Mourinho started Dier of his Premier League appearances under the Roma-bound boss as a key rock of the Spurs defence for much of the campaign, which was a similar tune toward the after being moved from his position in midfield.

Dier’s efforts during Project Restart also saw Mourinho laud the England international in conversation with , calling him ‘absolutely perfect’, but it remains to be seen if a reunion is possible once the current term draws to a close.
