Tottenham Hotspur now ‘intensifying’ talks for £60m ‘superstar’ likened to Robin van Persie

The Champions League looks a real possibility for Tottenham Hotspur this season with fifth place set to present a pathway into the elite competition – and Spurs needs much more strength in depth.

Ange Postecgolou has already made it clear he would like another centre-back – despite Spurs already signing Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin at Spurs. Cover on both sides of the defence, as well.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set for a move with Juventus keen, and a central midfielder is required. Spurs might need a new winger if they choose not to do a deal for Timo Werner, and a striker is crucial.

Spurs do have Richarlison up top, as well as Son Heung-min. But Son is probably better from the left and Richarlison could leave, if the price is right. So, Spurs need a new striker more than any other position.

Tottenham intensifying talks for Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez

The North Londoners have been linked with a few names. Even Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is said to remain on the Spurs list, having been linked with Spurs for a number of years – before his move to Juve.

But a report from states that Feyenoord’s Mexico star Santiago Gimenez is a top target for Spurs, with the report now claiming that Spurs are ‘intensifying’ talks to sign the £60m-rated ace.

This season, the Argentina-born striker has been immense. Described as a , 22-year-old ace Gimenez has scored 24 goals in 35 games for Dutch side Feyenoord – scorign 47 goals in 80 appearances.

He is earning rave reviews for his performances in The Netherlands, even if Feyenoord struggle to keep up with PSV eindhoven at the top of the Eredivisie. So much so, .

Are Tottenham alone in their pursuit of Feyenoord star Gimenez?

They aren’t, with West Ham and Fulham also keen on luring him to the Premier League. But, the Hammers may struggle to qualify for European football this season – and Fulham have little chance of it at all.

Tottenham surely boast the best chance of signing Gimenez from the three that are being linked as things stand. It remains to be seen if other clubs become interested in landing him before the window opens.

Is he worth the £60m price tag being touted? Well, he is yet to do it in a big league and £60m on a player is always a risk – especially, when that is the most you can expect Spurs to spend on a player right now.

Gimenez though, is showing all the necessary traits required to shine in the Premier League. He would come to Spurs, not simply as competition, but a starter. Under Postecoglou, he has the chance to thrive.
