Tottenham Hotspur ‘likely’ to sign Joachim Andersen, the end of Toby Alderweireld?

on Tottenham Hotspur’s apparent interest in a new central defender for the summer.

Spurs are reportedly keen on Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen. Of course, this is not a new name to the table and Spurs have been linked before. However, the report this morning has many excited by suggesting a transfer is ‘likely’.

This comes just days after that Tottenham were in talks with Sampdoria over the player, who is valued at €25 million (£22 million).

But what would his arrival mean, specifically for Toby Alderweireld?

The Belgian has re-established his reputation as one of the best central defenders in England this season.

His fine form at the World Cup helped that reputation but his future at Tottenham appears bleak. The former Ajax defender’s current contract expires in 2020 but a £25 million release clause comes into play this summer,

Considering his age and injury trouble last season, it looked as though Tottenham were willing to accept such a deal.

But he has stayed largely fit this season and age does not appear to be dampening his abilities.

Tottenham, therefore, are left in a quandary and it is perhaps with that in mind that Andersen is being targeted.

If this deal is likely, then it would appear near-equally as likely that Tottenham may be resigned to potentially losing Alderweireld this summer as well.
