Tottenham Hotspur could send £15m player to Chelsea to sign Conor Gallagher

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur could try to use Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in a swap deal involving Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

That is according to Sky Sports, which has noted just how keen Tottenham are on signing Gallagher from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea in the January transfer window.

So, what has been reported about Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Conor Gallagher and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg? Let’s take a look.

Potential Tottenham Hotspur – Chelsea swap deal involving Conor Gallagher and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Well, according to , Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The report has claimed that Chelsea themselves are willing to cash in on the 23-year-old England international midfielder.

Sky Sports have claimed that Spurs had a deal in place for Gallagher in the summer of 2023, but London and Premier League rivals Chelsea decided not to sell him.

However, Chelsea are now ready to listen to offers for Gallagher and Spurs are keen on bringing him to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the middle of the season.

And, Spurs could try to include Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in a swap deal. The £15 million () Denmark international midfielder is a peripheral figure at Tottenham under head coach Ange Postecoglou at the moment.

Sky Sports has noted that Juventus want to sign Hojbjerg and has added that “one source close to the situation in the summer has even mooted the idea of a Hojbjerg-Gallagher swap deal next month”.

The report added: “Whether or not Chelsea are interested in Hojbjerg is unclear at this stage. However, they are understood to be looking for another defensively-minded midfielder should Gallagher leave the club.”

My View: Swap deal will not happen

I do not think that Chelsea will be open to a swap deal involving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Of course, Tottenham will have to pay a decent amount of cash too for Conor Gallagher, but I do not see the Blues being interested in such a transaction.

After all, Hojbjerg is 28 now and is not even playing for Spurs. So, why would Chelsea sign a player who is not deemed good enough for Tottenham?

Gallagher is 23 now and is doing well for Chelsea, so it would be better for the Blues to tie him down to a new deal or sell him for £50 million or more instead of bringing in Hojbjerg as a potential replacement.
