‘Different targets’: Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham have now walked away from signing ‘spectacular’ player

Tottenham will not be signing Danish midfielder, Christian Eriksen, with confirming the club has moved onto new targets now.

Eriksen has been linked with a move to Tottenham and other clubs this window. A host of teams – including Newcastle and Everton – are believed to have offered the Dane a contract. He is expected to leave Brentford, despite the Bees giving him his big chance to return to football in January.

However, while a number of teams want Eriksen, it seems Tottenham won’t be signing him. Offering an update on the midfielder via his Twitter account, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Spurs are now focussing on different targets.

Interestingly, Romano has hinted that Eriksen is getting close to making a decision on his future.

The midfielder is set to be a big-name signing for whichever club he chooses. After impressing for Brentford and doing so well with Inter Milan before that, the former Spurs star is a wanted man.

Eriksen – who was labelled as ‘spectacular‘ by Gary Neville last season – suffered a nightmare cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 and was unable to return to playing in Italy. Now back in England, he has defied the odds to show he is still a quality operator.

TBR’s View: Tottenham Have Moved On From Eriksen

It was a bit of a fairytale story, really, Tottenham getting Eriksen back. But the fact is times have moved on and Spurs need to bring in new players with fresh ideas and work ethics.

As much as Conte liked working with Eriksen at Inter, Spurs are a club on the up and there are other players out there for them to concentrate on. Not that Eriksen wouldn’t have been successful back at Spurs, but there is a feeling of been there and done that about it.

Whoever does get Eriksen, though, will be a lucky football club.
