Tottenham handed boost as misfiring Borussia Dortmund fail to beat bottom of the league
Just days after losing 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund once again suffered another disappointing result.
Lucien Favre’s men were hoping to get back on track as they returned to league action on Monday night.
But they failed to score against the Bundesliga’s bottom club FC Nuremberg, who held the league leaders to a goalless draw.
It should have been a formality for Borussia Dortmund but they were only able to move three points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the league.
Nuremberg picked up just their 13th point of the season and remain two points adrift of safety.
And this is a welcome boost for Tottenham, who are preparing for their visit to Germany in early March for the second leg.

Spurs carry a three-goal advantage into this fixture and know that getting an away goal would mean Borussia Dortmund needing to score five.
But the German heavyweights have failed to score in their previous two matches – the first time this has happened since early 2015.
Tottenham have one foot in the next round but they know that the tie is not over yet.
However, Borussia Dortmund’s domestic struggles will give Spurs fans reassurance ahead of the return leg.
