Tottenham given encouragement over ‘fantastic’ £43m signing, but Aston Villa hope to win race
Tottenham Hotspur have a decision to make over loanee Timo Werner and should have other targets in mind for the summer transfer window.
Tottenham left fans – both neutrals and those of a Spurs persuasion – a little baffled when Werner arrived on loan from RB Leipzig in January.
The German had struggled to find his top form after a 2020 move to Chelsea and didn’t really get back on track after rejoining RB Leipzig.
Tottenham pounced with a loan deal, bringing Werner back for another shot at Premier League glory.
The results so far have been pretty good; Werner has hit two goals and three assists in 11 Tottenham appearances but also forced an own goal in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest.
Werner is doing all he can to earn a permanent deal at Tottenham and he is understood to want a long-term stay at the club.
Spurs have a £15.5million purchase clause on Werner so could keep him around, but other targets are in mind too…

Aston Villa and Tottenham want Nico Williams
Reports this week have highlighted that Tottenham are interested in signing Athletic Club winger Nico Williams.
Williams has a £43million release clause in his contract and is expected to attract huge interest this summer.
now claim that Tottenham have been ‘given confidence’ that Williams is open to a transfer this summer.
Spurs have seemingly spoken to Williams’ representatives to gauge his interest and a move away from Athletic may be on the cards.
The problem for Tottenham is that Premier League rivals Aston Villa are also very interested.
Unai Emery has allegedly picked out Williams as the ideal replacement for loanee Nicolo Zaniolo this summer.
Villa already have real speedsters in Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey but may now look to add Williams too.
Villa are described as ‘hopeful’ of being able to win the race for Williams having shown an interest in him for a year now.
Tottenham and Villa are currently battling it out for a Champions League place but the attention will soon turn to fighting over Williams.
Williams backed to shine alongside Son Heung-min
One man who would love to see Tottenham sign Williams is Spanish football expert Terry Gibson.
A Tottenham fan and former Spurs player, over the weekend to call Williams ‘fantastic’.
that he would love to be ‘greedy’ and have both Williams and Son Heung-min in the Tottenham attack.
Tottenham are seemingly considering making Gibson’s dream a reality but it may be a case of Williams or Werner rather than both.
Werner will cost around a third of Williams’ price tag, which is certainly something to think about, but Williams’ talent and potential to get even better over the coming years makes him very appealing.
