Tottenham fans sceptical about comments from Toby Alderweireld
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld expects to be at the club next season – but some of the club’s supporters are sceptical about his comments.
The Belgian centre-back has explained that he thinks he will still be with Spurs going into next year.
“I’m going to say the same thing that I’ve been saying for the past couple of years, the only focus is Spurs. I have one year left on my contract, so in my head, I will play for Spurs next season,” he told
Alderweireld has one year left on his deal with the North London club, but he’s got a £25million release clause that becomes active this summer ().
The 30-year-old has proven himself to be one of the Premier League’s best centre-back in recent years and has been an excellent servant since he moved to Spurs in 2015.

A selection of Spurs fans aren’t fully convinced that their defender will be around next year despite his comments suggesting otherwise.
They don’t believe he would hint at an exit so close before the Champions League final against Liverpool, but expect hiim to depart in the summer.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino would have an immense void to try fill if he does leave and losing him for a minimal £25million price would sting.
The centre-back is surely likely to start in the European final and it would be some way to bow out with a win, but there will plenty of intrigue on where his future lies afterwards.
Here are some Spurs fans discussing the Alderweireld comments:
So in football terms it means he’s off in the summer

So that means he isn’t going to sign a contract

Basically wants a free transfer!

No way the club let him go for free I don’t think

Still be gone in summer in other words.

Be amazed if he’s here next season

Come on guys unless he signs a new contract his is gone simple as that I’d be very surprised if he is still a spurs player next season

Hopefully he’ll sign the ting after the Champs final. If not, I can’t see us taking a chance on him leaving on a free next summer.
