Tottenham fans say defender has to be reinstated ahead of Everton
Tottenham travel to Everton in the Premier League on Friday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have claimed that Toby Alderweireld should be recalled to the starting XI.
Jose Mourinho is currently preparing for his side to face Merseyside club Everton tomorrow.
It’s a vital fixture for both.
For Spurs, they are seventh in the table trying to close down a six-point deficit to the top four positions. Meanwhile, opponents Everton are just a place and point behind them in the league standings, as they also hold aspirations of a Champions League finish still.
The north London club go into Friday’s game needing a response after the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in the previous match.
Alderweireld, 32, watched on from the bench against Man United, and he’s not been a nailed-on starter this season for Spurs.
The £150,000-a-week () Belgian centre-back has been one of the club’s elite stars for several years, but perhaps there are signs he’s slowing down a little.
Mourinho has been able to make his mind up on a settled centre-half partnership in the heart of defence, constantly rotating between the several options within his squad.
Here are some Spurs fans asking for Alderweireld:
id honestly love to know why jose Mourinho isnt playing toby alderweireld in defence with rodon.can someone please tell me whats the problem or am i missing something here.. seriously

totally agree with u on the Toby must start alongside Rodon and the ‘flick’ of the wrist on Son. Also I agree that there’s no identity. I watch and scratch my head and wat the plan is. Baffling to me tbh

All the changes at CB definitely don’t help, but realistically how can you expect them to offer any value in the build-up when solely reliant on off the cuff movement ahead of them, which is why for me Toby has to start as the only one who might add something

Toby just needs to start and our defence is sorted🙏

Even though he seems to have slowed down and aged significantly over the past 12 months, does anyone else feel like we need old man Toby back in the lineup for the rest of the season?

I’d be surprised if Alderweireld played even though he should.
