Tottenham fans react to Toby Alderweireld’s Tweet after Belgium beat Iceland

Toby Alderweireld has posted on Twitter after the Tottenham Hotspur defender helped Belgium earn a crucial UEFA Nations League win over Iceland on Wednesday night away from home – and Spurs supporters reacted to his post.

Alderweireld, 31, has played every minute of Belgium’s last two fixtures after missing the friendly against the Ivory Coast earlier in the break. He failed to stop some of his Tottenham teammates on Sunday as England beat Belgium 2-1.

But Roberto Martinez’s side put things right on Wednesday night. A brace from Romelu Lukaku saw Belgium pick up three points over Iceland, with a 2-1 win – cancelling out Birkir Saevarsson’s equaliser.

It saw Belgium overtake England and climb into the top spot in A2, with Denmark and England both on seven points and Iceland yet to earn a single point. There are just two more matches to play in the group, and Alderweireld has posted on Twitter.

Tottenham play host to London rivals West Ham United on Sunday evening and Alderweireld could be brought into the starting line-up, after Eric Dier suffered an injury while on international duty. He could partner Davinson Sanchez at centre-back.

Spurs fans responded to their £11.5million () signing’s post on Twitter, with some applauding the former Ajax man for securing a win over Iceland. One fan, still reeling from England’s loss, told Toby not to “rub it in”.
