Tottenham fans react to Toby Alderweireld’s performance in 9-0 Belgium victory
Tottenham defensive duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen enjoyed a stroll for Belgium against San Marino last night, taking to the field in a 9-0 victory.
It may have been a welcome relief from the struggles at Spurs right now, as the Red Devils qualified for next summer’s Euro 2020 with the easiest of wins.
£80,000-a-week () defender Alderweireld even found the back of the net. There was debate over whether the strike was going to be counted as his, but gave it to him.
His contract situation at Tottenham remains unresolved however, and many supporters have not been impressed by the way he started the season.

Some supporters on Twitter demanded Alderweireld ups his game for Tottenham, while others said that a settled team and manager at international level helped him perform.
In truth, Belgium are so good that they’d have wiped the floor with San Marino regardless. Perhaps the match will be more important as a morale boosting exercise; playing a part in an easy win and getting qualification secured may put a smile on Alderweireld’s face after a tough start to the season.
