Tottenham fans react to Jose Mourinho’s injury update on Toby Alderweireld

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has given an injury update on defender Toby Alderweireld – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter are pleased with the outcome.

Spurs centre-back Alderweireld, 31, is set to miss two-four weeks with a muscle injury, after he was forced off in the recent 2-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League.

The £11.5million star () is absent from Thursday night’s Europa League fixture at home to Bulgarian side Ludogorets and will also be unavailable for the league showdown with London rivals Chelsea this weekend at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho confirmed the extent of the Belgian’s injury in his Wednesday press conference:

“He has a muscular injury but not as big as we initially thought. He will have time to be out but not like a month which is what we immediately thought. So I would say between two and four weeks,”

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media are glad that Alderweireld’s injury is not as bad as some feared it could be when he was taken off at the weekend.

The centre-half has been a key figure in the backline at the beginning of the season and built up a solid partnership alongside England international Eric Dier, but the door has opened for Joe Rodon or Davinson Sanchez to step in for him.

With a busy schedule during December, it’s vital Mourinho gets his squad fit and it’s likely he’s going to have to rotate heavily.
