Tottenham fans react to Emerson Royal display vs Aston Villa
A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Emerson Royal after his display against Aston Villa on Sunday.
What’s the story?
Spurs have got back to winning ways in the Premier League after a hard-fought victory over the Villans.
A goal from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and an own goal from Matt Targett gave Tottenham the three points in North London.
It was a much-needed positive result for Nuno Espirito Santo, who has come under a lot of pressure in the last few weeks.
But it was a game that also saw a lot of Spurs players really shine. And one of those who enjoyed a much better day was Royal.
The 22-year-old returned to the starting lineup after initially being on the bench against Arsenal last weekend.
And he went on to produce perhaps his best performance yet for Spurs.
He made a number of clearances and interceptions, but he was also able to drive up the pitch on a number of occasions for Tottenham.
It has not been the easiest start to life for Royal in the Premier League. In fact, Spurs had not won a single top-flight fixture since the full-back’s move before Sunday.
That run is obviously now over. And plenty of the supporters are optimistic that he will have plenty to offer over the coming months.
Tottenham have not had the best time with right-backs for a little while. Neither Serge Aurier or Matt Doherty was overly impressive last season.

Japhet Tanganga has shown glimpses of his potential. But Royal seemed to show exactly why Fabio Paratici wanted to bring him in from Barcelona on deadline day.

Emerson Royal naturally looks a lot more comfortable than he did when he first arrived. Still not seeing that he offers a ~ton~ either offensively or defensively, but he at least appears to be a very steady RB.
